BIOGRAPHY Born in Lagos, Nigeria of Australian parents, Andrew Cox spent the next 19 years living as a world citizen before moving to Australia. The experience of living in Nigeria, England, Lebanon, Zambia, Jamaica and America has impacted Andrew's view of the world in a unique way which is reflected in his music. Andrew has been playing in bands since the age of 14 when he was inspired by the complexity, instrumentation and sonority of the early era music created by the band Chicago. During that time he was living in Wisconsin where he was also pursuing his love of singing by performing in madrigals, choirs and musicals whilst also playing clarinet in symphonic and marching bands. His love of music and especially singing led him to study at Northwestern University, Chicago for his Bachelor of Music, Majoring in Voice. With the family's decision to settle in Australia, Andrew migrated back to his ancestral home to continue his Bachelor of Music at the Conservatorium of Music at Melbourne University. Here he was to study singing with Dame Joan Hammond and composition with Peter Tahourdin but also where he met up with his friends and tavern philosophers to start his first Australian band, Surface Tension. Andrew's interest and experience in various musical styles brought him to join some interesting bands: The Grand Wazoo Band of 1000 Dances was one of Melbourne's best known soul review bands which would also perform as the High Society Swing Band where Andrew would swoon the ladies with Frank Sinatra numbers. Musiki Manjaro was an African band where Andrew sang in various African dialects. Native African punters were ecstatic to hear authenticity in Andrew's vocals despite the fact that he was a white guy who didn't understand the languages. Andrew has also sung and played keyboards in the reggae band, Alpha Beat alongside Ross Hannaford's lead guitarist, Michael Morrison. He travelled the east coast of Australia for 12 months in a concept covers band called Fe Fi Fo Fum. Andrew co-wrote and performed in jazz-influenced duo Living Groove Connection which won Best Adult Contemporary and Best Male Vocal at the North Coast Music Industry Awards. He was also a part of a 6 piece world music group Jungle Juice that co-wrote many songs that became popular on the live music circuit. During this time Andrew has continuously composed his own material and now is the time where you will get to see Andrew Cox "Demonstrate It" as the diverse musical talent that he is in his own right.
